Impromptu shooting: what you may want to know!

For Full Album Click the Photo: Lissa Lew Editorial style shoot: the last drops of summer, a photo by fhfotos on Flickr. The one thing about an Impromptu shoot is that you never know what you are gonna get. That morning I woke up all kinds of inspired as I looked thru dozens of images from a variety of places. I imagined the weather, the locations, but it can be difficult to get them to be exactly how you planned it. For me I’m used to having my plans changed on me, and having to completely adjust and rearrange my own plans. Flexibility, punctuality, and creativity are key for becoming a photographer....

Model Workshop: Maria

For the Full Album click the Photo: Model Workshop: Maria Originally uploaded by fhfotos I have studied posing for the last 2 years and have constantly been working on the art of posing for modeling and for portrait. I find that sometimes you don’t realize what you know until you are helping teach someone what you know. I had the opportunity to collaborate and work a mini workshop studio session with my fellow photographer Eric and other friend Maria as the model. We were playing with light and direction as well as how to position a model for light. All in all it was a great time...

2011 Here We Come!

It's been almost one year since I truly started off this "photography thing" and I can't believe how much I was able to do in a year! I was able to: shoot for the largest fashion show in the west coast, photography a handful of weddings, travel to haiti and photo-journal my experience, work with a few dozen models, be ringside of a muay thai competition, capture amazing portraits of couples, families, and children, post a handful of photography and so much more!  I went from just a few hundred views a month on this site to on average about 1,000± views a month and hope to continue in that trend...

Getting That Studio Look

I just got my studio light and am looking to shoot family portraits for those who need a decent shot of their family Christmas pictures. Most of the time people have an idea of what they want their pictures to look like: some great background (maybe a favorite place outdoors, or by the fireplace, someplace rustic, or maybe some props they can have to add a certain mood or portray an idea with their...

How To Work Towards One Goal While Pursuing Another: Q&A With Jay Adams

I always find that when I get to network with other industry professionals that it gives me perspective about photography. I happened to network an amazing photographer that has an incredible work ethic.  Not that other photographers don’t but its one thing to have photography be your livelihood, its another to work in another industry while you build up your clientele, portfolio, and sharpen your tools as you are transitioning into another.  Jay has always stood out for me, and mostly because we have similar positions, both of us are in the education field and looking to transition into an artistic...

The Golden Hour: A Portrait Session

For the Full Album click the Photo: Leslie Originally uploaded by fhfotos I had the opportunity to do a last minute shoot with a friend who will be heading off to college. Recently I have been getting a lot of people who want to schedule family, modeling, and portrait sessions. Most of the time a person will suggest something that sounds fine until they realize that a photographer sees a situation from a much different perspective. One of the main things about photography would be to understand your camera; the next would probably be to understand light. There are a handful of light sources...

For the Full Album click the Photo: Fireworks! Click here for the Slideshow! Originally uploaded by fhfotos Yea a day and a month late and a dollar short, but that doesn’t mean that I can’t give you some basic tips for shooting fireworks! These past few weeks my friends and I have been trying to take care some awesome leftover fireworks from the more important 4th of July. We lit up the night the way our forefathers wanted, (what a great way to celebrate whoever thought of this!). The MOST IMPORTANT thing in Photography is always “Light.” The better that you can understand light...
