I attended the Mélange Fashion Show on Sunday and it wasn’t really anything I was prepared for. Mélange is a fashion entertainment company that seeks to combine a unique blend of music, theater, dance, and technology on the runway. They embrace diversity and displayed those qualities as well showcasing models of different ethnicities, shapes and sizes. As everyone stepped into the San Francisco Design Center that night I’m not sure we were all prepared for what we were about to experience. The show exhibited an array of designers globally, as well as the crowd who seemed to have traveled from all over as well as bringing in raw talent to the runway.

I think I was most impressed by was the venue. I’ve been to a handful of fashion shows, each unique in their own way, but this venue stuck out due to its multiple dimensions and location. I leave the wardrobe a collection talk usually up to the fashion experts but I will say that for men’s fashion Alley’s collection of Men’s apparel was quite stand out for me. I’m a fan of a good A-symmetrical coat. As for other stand out designers I was a fan of Debbie Nghiem, Nicole Miller, Grace liliam Lee, and much more! There were plenty of good things to say about the Wealth of diverse designers as well as the blend of great music and dance representation that to me gave the show a refreshing new dimension.

All in all there were a few hiccups in my opinion, including the delayed start time, as well as a few noticeable lulls when transitioning from one designer to another. But I think one of the things that impressed me (which I found out about after the show) was how they took people and trained them to model. Most of their runway was filled with amateurs that went to a modeling boot camp and gained the confidence and poise, which was evident as they strutted down the catwalk. For me it was a spark of even better things to come. For what I believe was their first show here in SF, I think they delivered a lot and left us wondering what’s next! My images were less focused on the clothes themselves, since there were plenty of other photographers that could stand at the end of the runway and capture these images. I focused on capturing the emotion, the panorama, and the energy of the show itself.
