Senior Portraits: Getting The Shots That Matter
For as long as I’ve known it to be Prestige and Lifetouch have taken over much of the general market for getting senior portraits done professionally. It’s pretty simple you book your appointment, you get in the studio and they throw you into the session, tell you what you have to look like then you get a small opportunity to capture some small glimpse of who you are not that they care, but they allow you to bring in some sort of prop that is supposed to add to your session with an attempt to show some personality while they push you off and move on to the next session who is waiting out in the lobby. They send you the proofs and you choose what you want to keep, send back what you don’t, needless to say if you don’t like the images well you can reschedule and at the rate you will probably be paying to get them touched up and there is your products that you have. Is it bad? No, actually not at all I just like to think that there might be another way to do it.
What if you had the opportunity to change your outfits? What would it look like if you didn’t have the SAME background as EVERY OTHER person that was in that studio? Maybe there is a place that has more meaning for you… Well why not have your portraits match who you are instead of being told what you get to look like? Lets face it as a senior you are one step from being closer to being on your own, and as an individual you express yourself differently than anyone else. You have your own style, your own personality, interests, and unique talents. I aim to take images that best describe you!
Here’s a few things to think about:
>What best describes you? Are you more creative and edgy? More relaxed and carefree? Athletic yet trendy? Or simple and refined?
What you look like and who you are is the tone that I use to set up each session. I want each portrait to be unique and personalized. If you want cookie cutter images… Chances are you are looking at the wrong photographer.
Just a heads up I’m not talking about taking senior pictures for yearbook, go get that done at wherever you are supposed to, I’m talking about if you want great images of yourself that you can look back on and smile. It’s a contemporary style that I apply when shooting and focusing on expressions and personality to make a unique portrait.
