What does fashion mean to me? Well I guess if I were to simplify fashion for me I would say that it’s knowing the basics, the rules, and knowing when to break them. Fashion can be a creative extension or expression of you as well, and I believe it is definitely a form of art. Because fashion trends come and go, evolve, change, and are moving and active I find that this can be one of the most challenging things to photograph. So when I was asked to be a photographer for Charity Fashion Show I knew I was in for something epic!
If fashion is an art form then to photograph the art in motion, I feel has to compliment the mood and feel behind each style. Fashion shows and many fashion trends tend to be shot in a very static way, which is fine if you are looking for consistent shots, but for me that’s just not my personality nor is it what I believe is the best way to represent the industry. I want cutting edge, I want risky, bold, daring, images that break the rules of “normal photography” and aim to creatively express the art work of each designer. So forgive me if my work isn’t the same as everyone else’s, I actually photographed all the photographers in the same area that they were designated to shoot but I didn’t want the same shots that they got, even if they were better images, I wanted to shoot a fashion show the way that I always cover them, which is being mobile and trying new things. I got a few great shots from this event and I hope that you enjoy them as much, if not, there are plenty of other great photographers that got images you may normally be looking for!
