Making Your Mark On the lives of others:

Since I can remember I have always wanted to take part in something that was bigger than me. I wanted to help others, not just opening a door for someone but to make my mark in the lives of people. I personally believe that some of the greatest investments are in the wealth of your relationships. I enjoy meeting new people and hearing people’s stories, struggles, and even moments of success. I’ve done what I can do for the most part and I have learned in order to be successful you have to put people first. It’s a work In progress and I admit I’m not the best at it but I do what I can to be any bit of help that a person may need no matter how big or small.
In High school I remember we did something called senior superlatives, this was where the whole entire senior class began to vote on things they felt they saw in others (or themselves I guess.) Not everyone received these SUPER Adjectives that people seemed to have seen in others but I was surprised when I heard that I was nominated for “most likely to save the planet.” It’s been something on my heart. But I didn’t think that I stood out. Over the course of my high school “career” I was able to do some humanitarian work in Brazil but other than that I didn’t remember talking about how I was a super hero or that I planned on solving world hunger. I went on to win that accolade and I remember that moment when I thought that more than what I could ever say my passion for people must have exuded out of me and it was noticeable among my peers (just a side note, I wasn’t a jock thought I played sports, I wasn’t a thespian, though I loved to act on film, and I wasn’t in the “popular crowd because I served lunch in the cafeteria. I was about as “average” as average kid could get.) I say all this to say what? Well I believe at times there are defining moments in a person’s life. This might not be one of the Greatest moments in my life to receive a piece of paper that people voted on, but I remember that moment where I wanted to do what this paper said. I still do to this day.
I think what the biggest issue for most of us is that we tend to think that we have to do something great that will bring a change or affect an entire community, nation, world. Sometimes saying Hi means the “World” to someone. The biggest change can start small. I have a vision; which is something that surpasses anything that I can do myself. It’s a dream that I can be that candle in someone’s moment of darkness. I don’t need to be a flashlight, but even if it’s a flicker of hope, that can be the spark that starts the change in the heart of an individual. For the past couple of years I’ve had the opportunity to work with children all over the world; Brazil, Mexico, Africa, and now I have the opportunity to help a more children now in Haiti where the possibility of great things can come from these small seeds of hope. I will be going to Haiti on October 21st -25th this year (2010) to help a small school where children are in need of supplies and a safe place to further their education and who knows? Maybe one child from there will do things that will turn their Country around and be the agent of change that was needed to rebuild their homeland for the better. I am giving anyone who wants to take part the unique opportunity to help me. Like I said it’s a vision, which is spelt M-O-N-E-Y. I have about a week left to finish raising the goal funds of 10,000$ and I need everyone’s help! Like I said it doesn’t need to be much, if you have a dollar or can spread the word to someone who has a few more dollars I’d appreciate the help! So far I’ve sent my request out to a few thousand people and I hope to get it out to as many as possible. Many hands make a heavy load feel light. I truly believe that every single dollar will be 1 life that will be changed for the better. 1$=1Life campaign I posted on facebook feel free to take a look and see how you can be involved (feel free to email me with any questions!) I’ll leave you with a quote I thought up a while back:
I don’t want to be the next GREAT revolutionist, Billionaire, Athlete, World Shaker, Just the guy who helped them to get there- Kanoa Utler
Be blessed! 8)
